Initially, this may seem like a trivial issue. The Obama’s are millionaires and they can certainly afford to wear such expensive shoes. However, given the mood of the country and the fact that people are loosing their jobs and cutting back on their expenses, is such opulence from the first family appropriate? The behavior of the first family sets a tone for others to follow. It is a small gesture, but if the Obama’s cut back on their extravagance, they will just connect better with the people of the country and show that they sympathize with their pain.
The Obama’s are well aware that their actions are under a constant microscope. The press laps up anything that they do and they should show better judgment in the way they present themselves.
