U.S. President Barack Obama made a 24-hour visit to Ireland, where his great-great-great grandfather Falmouth Kearney lived on May 23, 2011. He is the sixth President visiting the country, the first was John Kennedy in 1963. With Irish, Kenyan and American roots, Mr. Obama is expected to highlight the strong ties between Ireland and the US.

After U.S. President Obama’s plane, Air Force One, landed amid tight security at Dublin Airport, he and his wife was greeted by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, and her husband Martin McAleese.

Brack Obama then attended a tree planting ceremony at the Peace Bell in Dublin, delivered a speech at College Green and visited Moneygall village in rural County Offaly, from which he has roots.
